How To Stay In Shape When You’re On A Business Trip | Luxury Travel Blogger

When you are traveling for business, it is easy to get far too busy. You want to pack in as much as you can during the trip so you can come back home with the deal closed and a happy boss. What happens is that you end up forgetting to take care of yourself and you end up with a few extra pounds coming home. And when you start getting into bad habits and not staying active, it can form bad habits back home that are hard to shake. This is especially true if you are on a long term business trip.

Here are some ideas on how to stay active and maintain your fitness goals even when you are away on business…

Research the workout facilities

Many hotels have gyms for their members to use while staying there. Unfortunately, many of these gyms are poor excuses for working out. They are usually small and don’t have much equipment. Staying in a short term rental is usually much better as they take their fitness centers more seriously. Do some research before booking your accommodations so you know what you are getting into. For instance, some of the finest short term rentals Toronto has to offer have exceptional gyms for their guests that put hotel gyms to shame. If you stay in an Airbnb or an alternative to one, then you won’t usually have a gym in the facility so you’ll have to get creative.

Skip the gym

Let’s suppose that there is no possibility of using a gym when you are on your business trip. This doesn’t mean that you need to abandon your fitness goals. It just means that you need to get creative. There are a lot of exercises that you can do in your hotel room even if there is limited space. Burpees are the devil, but they are also a very effective way to stay fit without using any gym machines. Yoga is also very good at keeping you fit and can be done anywhere and at any time.

Go running

Chances are that you are in a city that has a lot of options for outdoor activities. Find where the locals go running and then head there yourself. Boston, for instance, has a wonderful bike and running path that runs along the banks of the Charles River and is close to the business center. No matter where you are there are places where you can get outside and get a run or brisk walk done. What happens if it is too hot or too cold out?

Take the stairs

As a last resort if there is no gym and no possibility of being active outdoors, you can always skip using the elevator. Take the stairs everytime you find yourself coming back to your room. Even if you are at a shopping center, you should take the stairs. Do this a few times per day and it is the equivalent of using the gym.
